Hospital de Órbigo

What to Know

Hospital de Órbigo is a small but historically significant village located between Astorga and León. It is best known for its impressive Puente de Órbigo, a magnificent 13th-century medieval bridge with 19 arches that spans the Órbigo River. The bridge is one of the longest and most beautiful on the entire Camino Francés.

According to legend, in 1434 the bridge was the site of a famous jousting tournament known as the Paso Honroso, where a knight named Suero de Quiñones and his companions defended the bridge against all challengers for a month. Today, the bridge and the peaceful village offer pilgrims a memorable stop with strong historical atmosphere and good services.
