Nájera

After passing through Los Arcos, the Camino continues into the region of La Rioja and reaches the historic town of Nájera. Nestled along the banks of the river Najerilla, Nájera has been an important stop for pilgrims for centuries.

The town's name comes from the Arabic word nahr, meaning "river between rocks," referring to its dramatic setting. Nájera was once the capital of the Kingdom of Navarre and played a significant role in medieval Spanish history. Its most important site is the Monastery of Santa María la Real, which houses the royal pantheon where several kings and queens of Navarre are buried.
