When you first open The Way, you'll be invited to enter your pilgrim name and set your Camino start date. From there, explore the 50 locations along the Camino Francés on The Way tab, tap any location to read its story or listen to the audio narration, and tap I was here to mark it as visited.
If audio narrations aren't playing, try the following:
The Way stores all your data — visited locations, notes, and badges — locally on your device. Your progress can be lost if you:
We recommend emailing yourself your journal notes from the My Camino tab regularly as a backup.
Some badges — including León, Sarria, and Santiago de Compostela — require you to be physically present at that location. When you arrive, enable location access in the app and tap I was here on the location page. Other badges unlock automatically as you progress through the Camino.
Proximity alerts notify you as you approach each Camino stop. To enable them, tap the Nearby alerts toggle on The Way list page and grant location and notification permissions when prompted. Alerts only fire when you are physically near a location and will not drain your battery significantly, as location is checked periodically rather than continuously.
The Way supports English, Spanish (Español), French (Français), and Korean (한국어). Tap the language buttons in the top-right corner of any screen to switch. Location stories are translated automatically — the first load may take a moment, after which translations are cached on your device.
All your data is stored locally on your device and never transmitted to our servers. For full details, see our Privacy Policy.
